About the Library The vast majority of the eligible holdings from the University of Nottingham lie within the core Special Collections of Hallward Library, although some are also found in named Special Collections.
Collection Highlights Collection 1: The core Special Collections do not have a single provenance, but have been built up over the years by gift and purchase. Where individual donors have given a quantity of books to join these holdings, the volumes have been integrated with the rest of the stock, although bookplates and accession records do preserve evidence of provenance. Traditionally housed in the Hallward Library, the subject range reflects the arts/humanities disciplines of that Library, with an emphasis on theological, historical, philosophical and literary areas.

Collection 2: Separate series of general Special Collections material have also been built up in other subject libraries, and items from Law, Agriculture and Food Sciences and Music will be included. Of the named Special Collections, the principal ones with relevant titles are the East Midlands Special Collection (particularly for works about Nottinghamshire topography and history) and the Oakham Parish Library (with a concentration on theology and philosophy).
